AFC OLD BANK 2 MELFORT EAGLES 4
mat 1, ed 1
Man of the match - Wallis
Wanker of week - Wallis
The biggest game of the season a top of the table clash to rival Arsenal - Man Utd no sorry they are both shite now more like Chelsea - Wigan!
A new look Melfort Eagles soaring high at the top of the table (eagles - soaring get it?) i say new look be fair they are an entirely different team!
The game started with Old Bank taking the bull by the horns (cliche) and going at Melfort witha few early chances with the offside trap catching us before on the stroke of 7 minutes Ed played Mat in on goal, his shot was saved, the ball rebounded to Mat who crossed to Ed to slot the ball home with he claims his left foot i thought it hit him on the arse. (no not a header - his other arse!) 1-0 and Melfort were shell shocked!
Unfortunately the lead did not last as a ball over the top beat our offside trap and two melfort forwards combined to make it 1-1.
The game was ebbing and flowing , end to end with both teams creating chances but again it was Old Bank who on 37 minutes with Dan running the wing, holding the ball up before playing it back to Mark who crossed to the back post for Mat to come steaming in to bury the ball from close range 2-1!
In the build up Alex had received an injury to his groin area which no amount of pleading by him was going to get me to rub it better but he had to come of the pitch for a minute or two and Melfort took advantage and on 39 minutes a lack of communication by 4 of our defenders and the inability to take responsibilty and clear the ball led to a sloppy goal and it was 2-2.
Half time came and Carl was introduced to the fray in place of Rich. We were still asleep and on 48 minutes Kev was forced to get his second booking of the season to take out a player running at goal.
55 minutes saw Melfort take the lead with a good through ball beating the offside trap again and to be fair a quality finish left jim no chance.
Wallis was maraudering forward like a viking on bank holiday, dan was linking well, ed had a chance from well a yard but "it got stcuk under me so i pulled it back to mark" i quote! Marks shot was saved.
With Old bank pressing for the equaliser Gary and Guy came on in the hunt for a goal which left us a little weak defensively and jim who was performing his usual miracles - this boy does them all year not just a xmas!
However from nowhere a half hearted cross managed to evade Wallis, Aubrey and left jim no chance and it was 4-2.
That is how the game ended. Personally i think we could have got a draw but they are top of the league and look like the side to beat this year ands we will next time.
If anything it was a nice compliment when i overheard them talking at the league meeting next day when they said it was their toughest game of the season.
And just to fire you up i overheard Celts saying if they beat Melfort they will win the league - arrogant considering they still have two league games against us which i fully intend to win!
The do in the evening was well attended and some team building took place i think Mark and Ed took it too far with arranging a threesome with Mat for later in the week but each to his own!
Wanker of the week was awarded to Wallis who by popular vote was wearing the most hideous shirt of the night (normally my title!) had far too much energy on the dance floor save it for sundays please! and well for apparently being my ginger love child!
for those of you i insulted - TOUGH
For those i missed out you are obviously a non entinty and have done nothing to impress of annoy me this week and are dust on my shoe! (cliche) try harded next week!
p.s ed was really wanker of the week for that miss but i don't want to rock my strikers confidence.
Also one player described another as a weeble, another as shrek answer on a post card as to who they were talking about!
