AFC OLD BANK 5 SOUTH WIMBLEDON B 1
Ed 2, Mark 2, Mat 1
Man of the Match - Wallis although Alex, Aubs, Kev, Ian, Jim, Mat, Mark, Ed, Dan, Lee, Bill and Guy all in contention!
Wankers of the week - Group award to the no shows Marsh (honesty about being pissed) , Carl (groin strain!) Rich (honesty re drug induced state!)
The most personal game of the season to alot of both teams saw a changed line up and change of formation today which left no room in the starting line up for Dan.
The strongest bench all season with Bill waiting in the wings to renew old acquaintances!
The game kicked off very edgy and all credit to South Wimbledon they did not look like a side who has conceded so many gaols lately.
The tactical battle of wits was soon over as a lovely through ball by Mat saw Ed run on and finish with ease after 5 minutes. 1-0 .
Things calmed down slightly however Old Bank always wanted to take one extra touch and missed out on a few chances.
A half chance shot hit the centre backs hand and out of nowhere we were a warded a penalty , which to be honest was a bit harsh on South Wimbledon but after Ed's last penalty effort up stepped Mark cool as the proverbial cucumber to rifle the ball home for 2-0.
Despite a few other chances the rest of the half was pretty uneventful apart from one save by Jim to deny Daryl and Kev ruining our sportsmanship trophy chances and picking up the first booking of the season for the club !
A half time team talk saw the same side take to the pitch and after two minutes of the re start with Claws now in goal for the opposition Mat picked up the ball in our half ran round 10 of their players, then ran round them again for a bit of a giggle, then buried the ball in the net with the outside of his boot to make it 3-0 .
Flash git but we love him!
The chances came thick and fast Aubrey missed two sitters, Ed missed a few half chances a man of his caliber should finish, Guy missed a stonebonker! before Mark added his second and fourth for us and Ed added his second and 5-0!
They pulled one back with no one taking the man who ran through to make it 5-1.
Ed made way begrudgingly for Dan to go up front and Guy made way for the return of Bill also up front.
Ed sportingly took over the flag from Bill but i think thats only because he wanted to stick it somewhere painfull! oh er misses!
Bill had a great shot blocked, Dan played well and Aubrey is off my xmas card list after a great run to the bye line and did he pull it back for me to shot? did he hell the greedy bar steward carried on and tried to go it alone! Noted for next time i want to come on and need a scapegoat sub!
The game finished 5-1. 3 points we needed and a nice game i thought. Credit to South Wimbledon who do not look like a team at the bottom, we wish them luck for the rest of the season (except against us of course!)
Nice to see Daryl, Taff, Colin all playing well.
On a last note i sad farewell to Chris Blake who has requested a transfer to South Wimbledon to which i have agreed (with no fees involved!) sad to see Chris go (as he brings the eye candy supporters down!) but he will stay with us for 6 a side and be in the pub!
And Steve Laing has promised a return to the fold in 2006!
