18th September 2005 Freindly v CDS Strollers
Result 5-2
Ed 3, Mat 1, Guy 1
Afc Old Bank Sutton took to the field with almost all 19 players available and up for the last friendly before the battle for league supremacy begins next week.
The game started with Old Bank having all the play and pressing hard. This was without doubt looking like the best we had ever played.
Lee in his first game was linking well with Carl down the right who was having a blinder already.
Guy was chasing down every lost cause and Ed was even spotted breaking into a sprint at one point! ( now that really is something to see-not! )
After 14 minutes the opposition keeper cleared the ball which kindly fell to Ed on the edge of the box he took it into the box and finished with a well placed right yes right! foot shot! 1-0 Old Bank.
Old bank continued to press, Lee despite being the oldest player in the team at 45! (only joking he's 38!) looked fit and well and even threw away his zimmer frame at one point!
The midfield was being bossed by Alex who was sporting a lovely bruise on his neck ( he had either just met dracula the night before or should really try taking his dates out for a meal! )
I digress, Back to the football. Old Bank were passing the ball lovely, working hard for each other and the only down point would be there was still a lack of shouting from the team.
Carl went down the right, cut inside, battled his way passed two defenders and crossed for Ed to fire , right footed, towards goal a slight defecltion and 2-0.
Again good team work put pressure on the opposition the ball bounced around the box and then Mat rose like a salmon in season flung his body backwards in mid air and with a superb overhead kick made it 3-0 as the ball went in off the post. Goal of the season?
Just before half time Old Bank relaxed and allowed Cds to pull one back with a run down the wing and a cross being headed home.
A rousing half time talk by Bill saw the team take to the pitch for the second half with Dan, and Ash replacing Lee and Chris who had been described as like a jigsaw - always goes to pieces in the box!
Three minutes in and a lovely through ball by Mark saw Ed run on and score his hatrick 4-1 Old Bank! His reward he gotted subbed and Guy went back on for him!
An inspired substitution by Bill as a short while later after a lovely set of team play Guy scored to make it 5-1 and game over.
Despite a dubious penalty being awarded against Old Bank in the last minute , which someone had to wake Jim up for as he had been redundant mainly in this game.
5-2 the final score. But what a performance. Carl was man of the match with the best performance i have ever seen from him he looked class in every way!
Wanker of the week - a new award this season was not awarded to any one for their performance on the pitch but Ian Slaughter won for his extremely and rather worrying camp behaviour in the pub later that night!
The season looms large, hopes and aspirations are high and i firmly believe the future is in our own hands!
